Dr. Sajjad Muhammad’s research work published in the journal Sustainable Cities and Society entitled “Rethinking disaster resilience in high-density cities: Towards an urban resilience knowledge system” was selected to be included in the Compendium of People-centered Practices under the People-centered Smart Cities programme of the UN-HABITAT. This compendium selected a global collection of 152 innovative solutions (tools, mobile applications, digital platforms, reports, trainings, guidelines, etc.) that contribute to improving quality of life in cities and regions, especially for marginalized people and communities. Out of 152 solutions in the compendium, the work from Dr. Sajjad and the co-authors is the only solution selected from Hong Kong. It reflects his high-quality and scholarly achievement in contributing towards developing a better urban future through the innovative application of GIS and visualization technology.
Dr. Sajjad’s research on “Towards an urban resilience knowledge system in High-Density-Cities (HDCs)” discusses the proposed framework for a higher-resolution disaster resilience assessment in HDCs and the establishment of a resilience knowledge system using data-driven interactive dashboards to facilitate decision-making and resource allocation. The framework is heuristic for global urban regions in general and high-density cities in particular.
