The 2025 Geography Fieldcamp was held in Fukuoka, a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural scenery, making it an ideal setting for academic exploration and hands-on learning. From June 16 to June 20, 21 Geography Major students visited Fukuoka to delve into key topics such as environmental management, biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable development.
Throughout the trip, our students explored a variety of sites that offered valuable perspectives on the strategies and philosophies underpinning effective environmental management and sustainability efforts in Japan. From the verdant landscapes of Nokonoshima Island to the cutting-edge research facilities at Kyushu University, each destination was carefully selected to deepen their understanding of the complex relationship between human activities and the natural environment.
Our fieldcamp concluded with a trip to the Rinkai 3R Station, a vital facility dedicated to promoting the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle. This center plays a central role in advancing a sustainable, low-carbon society by encouraging waste reduction, resource conservation, and creative recycling projects. Through engaging lectures, a tour of the facility, and a hands-on papermaking activity, our students gained practical insights into effective waste management and the importance of community involvement in environmental protection and climate change mitigation, all in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
